Starting A Home Business After Retirement

grandparents retired

After all the productive years we have worked did you ever wish you had done something different, something you were passionate about?

Like starting your own business. Has that ever been your dream. I did! But, it was a very tough business to be in, especially in a small town where I was. I owned a hair salon and day spa for 34 years. With an average of 19 – 20 employees most times. If only affiliate marketing had been around then.

Starting your own business in retirement is easier than ever before, thanks to the internet. Plus, the startup costs are minimal.

Research how to get started with a blog and you can find tons of information. Just don’t be afraid to research and study the different ways to get started. But, in my honest opinion, Wealthy Affiliate is the most comprehensive training and the best bang for your buck. And the best training available. I will be here to help you if you have any questions.

It’s affordable and easy to follow. But, it takes time, it’s not a get rich quick program without any work. There is a lot of work involved but, it’s also a lot of fun.

Don’t believe a program that tells you that you can make x amount of dollars in 2 days or some other pie in the sky promise, it’s not truthful. It does take work and a lot of it. But anything worthwhile takes work.

But, there is money to be made and good money to be made, but you have to start a blog and get plenty of interesting articles written for that blog before you will see any success. So be patient, just get started and don’t give up.

This generation ( the Baby Boomers) have a different slant on retirement than their parents did.sign for marketing

While their parents worked most of their working life for one company and retired with a nice pension, that isn’t so for the baby boomers.

The current retirees don’t have a large retirement or large nest egg due to many extenuating factors, many out of their own control.

But many feel younger and healthier than their parents did at retirement age due to better health care systems and would enjoy working, so many retirees are looking to start their own business. Maybe it’s something they had always dreamed about.

Plus it can be done when it’s convenient for you. No 8 to 5 hours. You can work in the comfort of your home. No hassle with a brick and mortar building. No inventory or worrying about meeting payroll, if you have employees.

Retiring before they are ready

Many retired people have been forced out of their jobs sooner than they were ready to leave and probably could use some supplemental income. I know I would like to add to my retirement as I don’t want to be a burden to my children.

In today’s society, having your own business is very possible, thanks to the internet, with all it’s possibilities.

Find something you love.

Myself, I always loved to cook and bake and would have loved to have had a small restaurant, but that never happened. I did have my own hair salon and day spa for many years, which I also loved, but it did not leave me with a big retirement.

So, I’m planning on creating a website about cooking and baking, relying on many of the recipes that have been handed down to me from my Grandmothers, Aunts and Mother and different recipes that I have developed on my own.

But if you are interested in starting a business, this article will point you in the right direction.

You need to start with a niche, which is nothing more than something you are interested in, like a hobby. It could be cooking, gardening, skiing, coaching little league, knitting, sewing, golfing, electronics, the list is endless. But, don’t be too broad.

Than narrow that niche down even more to something more specific.

Check out Amazon and see how many products are available there. It’s mind boggling.

I just read an article about starting a survival site, in light of the recent corona virus pandemic. I thought that was very interesting and probably very new with not much competition.

I have an article about finding a niche, which might help you if you want to check it out. Plus I have many articles about understanding affiliate marketing.  how there are many different ways to earn money online, but affiliate marketing is the one I’m most familiar with, so please feel free to read any or all of them.

Here is help to point you in the right direction.

I searched for a long time to find something that was honest and worthwhile to help me.

Be careful of all the scams out there. Promising you thousand of dollars with no work. Stay away from that type of program and they are a dime a dozen. You need a very legitimate training program and there are some out there.

If you don’t want to research a lot then go to Wealthy Affiliate and you can see what they have to offer. It the complete training package and you can’t go wrong. Plus, you can join for free to get started. No credit card needed.

So when I found Wealthy Affiliate I was thrilled. It was the answer for me.

It has everything I needed to get a business up and running. Plus some hard work on my part.

Determination and the desire for success is also needed, plus the community of help available in Wealthy Affiliate is second to none.

Wealthy Affiliate has over 2 million active members and most are willing and able to help you if you need a question answered. Just ask.

But that’s true with any worthwhile venture. Nothing good comes easy, except if you win the lottery. And what are the chances of that.

If what I’ve said sounds sensible to you, please check out my Wealthy Affiliate Review. I’m sure you will find it very interesting. No credit card needed.

Also if you want to leave a comment or a question below I would appreciate it very much. Thank-you Deanna and good luck in your future.

  1. My husband and I have been talking about ways to supplement our income once we retire (we are still a few years away, but we like to research things).

Neither of us have pensions with work, so we cannot count on that money. We try to put money aside each month solely for retirement. However, we would like to have additional income streams.

I have never thought of an online business because I am not tech savvy and I have no idea what I would “sell” online. But the idea seems great! I could get started on it now and then hopefully by the time we want to retire we could be making money from that business. And ideally we could “work” from anywhere.

  2. You are so right with what you are saying, if we are working and live long enough retirement is something that we all must face . The good thing though is to prepare for it and if we have not then all may not be loss and that is where this awesome article that you have written comes in. This article that you have written is filled with great information. Thanks for sharing.

    • Hi Norman, Hopefully we are well enough in retirement to be active and doing an online business gives you the satisfaction of doing something challenging and fun too. Also extra money helps, thank you for your comment. Deanna

  3. My dad is currently a bit worried about how he is going to supplement his income once he retires and I might well show him this – it’s free for him to sign up and join right?
He’s a good writer and I think he’ll take to this like a duck to water. Do you feel the education is easy enough to digest?

    • Wealthy Affiliate is free to get started, but in order to continue with all the education available it will cost $47.00 a month. I’m sure that he will be able digest the information. Plus it will keep his mind active. Thanks for the comments. Deanna
